St. Francis of Assisi Tuesday Newsletter April 12, 2005 Thank You A big round of applause to the parents who helped on the first “Clean UP Day” on Saturday! Thanks to Rusty Justice, Bob Branham, Kelly Moore, Lee Smith, Mike Montgomery, Randy and Tony Stiles for the “Helping Hands” inweeding, planting, clean up, and repairs. If you missed this opportunity, another one is coming on Saturday, April 23rd. Outdoor Classroom The area around the flag pole is being redone to make an outdoor classroom. The concrete has been poured. Several benches have been ordered, and flower boxes are being created under the direction of Mike Montgomery and the Boy Scouts. Donations for the project are welcome. If you would like to donate in memory of a family member, we would appreciate it. We are exploring some ideas for two small trees. The Boy Scouts are building two long flower boxes in front of the school. The students are going to plant flowers in them next week. Reminders: Gattis Rebate Night is Tuesday, April 12th School Committee Meeting - Tuesday, April 12th at 7:00 Field Trip to the MAC to see BABE is Wednesday. Leave School at 9:00 ++++ Show starts at 10:00 Play lasts an hour and a half Students will eat lunch when they return to school Golf Tournament Door Prizes are due this Friday, April 15th Friday, the students will be dismissed early. Kindergarten at regular time - 11:45 Grades 1 - 6 at 12:00 Looking ahead: April 29th the Bishop is coming for a special Mass at 8:15. He will dedicate the school in memory of Fr. Jerry Stern. School families are going to host the reception. A list of refreshments will be sent out closer to the date. The newsletter is now on the web site. A magnet with the important numbers for school is attached to this newsletter. St. Francis Tuesday Newsletter April 5, 2005 News: The Spring Program has been moved to Tuesday, May 10th, at Pikeville High School. Golf Tournament The donations for the Golf Tournament are due by April 15th. Class captains will be contacting you soon. The captains are: Christina Sturgill for Kindergarten Julie Altman for grade four _______________for grade one Judy Lucas for grade five Cindy Wright for grade two Natalie Carter for grade six Frieda Sammons for grade three Volunteers Needed: There is also a need for people to assist at the golf course on April 25th. Mary Moore is coordinating these activities. She said that people are needed for several times during the day. The length of time can vary from a one hour commitment to an all day duty. She will be awaiting your generous response. Let Mary know by phone (432-4652) or send a note to the office by Friday. It sounds like a fun day! THANK YOU: Last week, the school received a grant for $5,000 from the Frank Lewis Foundation. Kathy Atkins has been writing grants for the past few months. This is our first positive response! Congratulations, Kathy. Sandy Bailey spent many hours with her many helpers working on the Book Fair. It was a tremendous success. The school will receive $1,408.45 in profit from this four day sale. Thanks to all the families who participated. The Box Tops for Education were sent in for the year. There were 3,700 box tops. Thanks to all who sent them to school. They generate a profit of $.10 per box top! Keep saving them for the school. The paper supplies at school are running low. The following classes are asked to bring items to school: Kindergarten and grades 1 & 2 – paper towels Grades 3 & 4 – paper plates (real paper- Styrofoam plates can’t be used in the microwave) Grades 5 & 6 – a box of Kleenex Next week Tuesday will be McDonald’s Day - It is Gattis Rebate night. School Committee meeting is next Tuesday, April 12th. The minutes from the last meeting are attached to this letter. Work on the accreditation process will be discussed. Saturday, April 9th and 16th will be work days at the school, beginning at 9:00AM. Volunteers are needed to help clean, plant flowers, etc. We are preparing for Bishop Gainer’s visit on April 29th. Please come help. We would love to see you here!
